The Union Home Minister set a one-year deadline for the full rollout of India’s three new criminal laws. He spoke at a national security conference. They replaced the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act. The new system aims to be faster, clearer, and better suited to present-day crime.

The minister said technology will drive this shift. He pointed to several new digital systems. These include an integrated crime-tracking network and a linked criminal justice database. They also include a national fingerprint identification system and AI-based tools for case analysis. These systems will help investigators build stronger cases. They will also reduce delays and give courts more reliable evidence.

Officials point to early results from some states as proof of impact. Certain regions have reported sharp jumps in conviction rates within just a year. Officials cite this as evidence that the reforms can scale nationally. The government also plans to train a new generation of police officers, forensic experts, and prosecutors. This training will prepare them to work within the modernized system.

The government expresses strong confidence in the reforms overall. Officials say full implementation will significantly improve coordination between police, forensic labs, and courts.
