Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Advises Victims to Claim Cyber Fraud Refunds Only Through Official Portal
Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has advised cybercrime victims to use only the official Money Restoration Module (MRM) available on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal to claim refunds for financial losses caused by online fraud. The advisory aims to protect victims from scammers pretending to offer faster refund services.
Officials said cybercriminals are increasingly impersonating government officers, police personnel, or banking representatives to trick victims into sharing confidential information. These fraudsters often promise to speed up the refund process in exchange for personal details or payments.
The bureau clarified that the refund process is completely free and no third party is authorized to collect fees or process claims on behalf of victims.
Victims who receive an official SMS from the Ministry of Home Affairs confirming refund eligibility should visit the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
After logging in with the mobile number used to register the complaint, users must complete OTP verification and access the Money Restoration Module. They can then review their complaint details and submit the refund request through the official system.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has urged citizens never to share OTPs, bank account details, passwords, debit or credit card information with anyone claiming to assist with refunds.
Officials stressed that approved refunds are processed only after verification by law enforcement agencies and banks. Once verified, the refunded amount is transferred directly to the victim’s registered bank account.
Anyone receiving suspicious calls or messages related to cybercrime refunds should report the incident immediately and avoid responding to unofficial requests.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has reiterated that the Money Restoration Module on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal is the only official platform for claiming refunds in cyber fraud cases. By following the authorized process and remaining cautious of impersonation scams, victims can protect both their personal information and their financial recovery. Citizens are encouraged to contact TGCSB or the investigating officer if they require assistance during the refund process.
