Six Chandigarh residents lose ₹13 lakh in separate online fraud case

Six residents of Chandigarh have reportedly lost around ₹13 lakh in separate incidents involving online scams, with fraudsters using different methods to gain access to money and personal banking information. The victims reported the cases to the Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector 17, and police registered separate FIRs.

One complaint involved a Sector 43-B resident who received a call from a person claiming to represent a gas company. The caller warned that the gas company would disconnect his connection over an unpaid bill and then sent him a payment link. After the resident used the link, the fraudster allegedly charged about ₹2.6 lakh to his credit card.

In another case, individuals posing as Adani Gas employees allegedly targeted a Sector 35 resident. The suspects reportedly obtained access to the victim’s phone and banking information before withdrawing more than ₹3 lakh.

A retired bank officer from Sector 44 reported losing ₹1.2 lakh after someone claiming to represent Punjab National Bank called him. The caller allegedly sought ATM card details while offering assistance with a retirement benefit card.

A retired colonel from Sector 21 reported three unauthorized credit card transactions amounting to ₹3.05 lakh. Separately, a Sector 9-D company lost ₹2.4 lakh through four unapproved UPI transfers.

In another case, a Sector 20 resident transferred ₹1.1 lakh after receiving a fake WhatsApp call claiming his son had been detained. Police are investigating the complaints and have urged people to avoid suspicious links and never share banking details with unknown callers.
